Fully updated–the book that millions of women and care providers have depended on for the facts about pregnancy. The book offers the latest research information available on nutrition; fetal testing; sexually transmitted diseases; alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs; workplace and household hazards; anesthesia; and more. If you are pregnant, or know someone who is (or will be), then this is one book that you’ll want to purchase. It’s a very practical, to-the-point guide to pregnancy, labor and delivery. It is designed to tell you what you need to know in a concise and easy to understand manner. The book is written from the viewpoint of an obstetrician, so its style is that of a factual medical reference. The book is arranged in an easy-to-use format with space to keep track of prenatal appointments, notes and questions, and any special instructions. The authors together have composed a well written, highly informing book about pregnancy. Both of the authors are highly educated on the subject of pregnancy, therefore in this book they are able to answer any questions an anticipating mother may have during the 9 months of her pregnancy and after the child is born. An essential guide for anyone who wants to educate him/herself on what a woman’s body is going through during pregnancy to buy this book.

Few subjects hold more universal appeal than that of medicine, and surely few books have evoked medicine’s drama and magic more powerfully than On Doctoring. It is the humanity in medicine that has inspired the pens of countless writers, and that has inspired the pens of countless writers, and that has now been captured in this remarkable anthology of medical literature. On Doctoring captures the pain and triumphs associated with the practice of medicine in an extraordinary collection. Written by physicians as well as non-physicians, this compilation of stories, poems, and essays eloquently captures what it is like to be sick, to be cured, to succumb to illness, or to overcome it. Drawing on the full spectrum of human emotions, the editors have included selections from such important and diverse writers as Anton Chekov, W. H. Auden, Pablo Neruda, Ernest Hemingway, Flannery O’Connor, Raymond Carver, and many more. In this era of managed healthcare, when medicine is becoming more and more technical, institutionalized and impersonal, this book recaptures the breadth, wonder, and the miracle of the medical profession. Presenting the issues, concerns, and challenges facing doctors and patients alike, the illuminating On Doctoring will speak to the hearts and minds of today’s readers. It is a book you will reach for time and again – a celebration of life and of a profession that helps make life possible.

Medicine: A History of Healing is a book that describes medicine from before we can think of all the way up to now. It shows different cultures of the world and how they practice medicine. The opening chapters describe the chronology of medical history and the development of medical theory and practice around the world. The ebb and flow of knowledge from East to West and the divergence and convergence over time of disparate medical practices is brilliantly explained in the latter chapters. The history of medicine is dealt with thematically, concentrating in individual chapters on particular types of therapy. The achievements of the world’s great healers are also examined. Throughout, the choice the illustrations richly complements the text and provides the readers with a glorious visual panorama of the practice of the healing arts across the world. The final chapter looks specifically at how the two cultures have interacted and examines the reassertion of the holistic approach to health in Western cultures. This book examines the idea of integration rather than divergence, looking at the diverse traditions of healing all over the world, tracing their common roots, and showing how Eastern traditions and Western science are gradually coming together again to the benefit of humanity.
